The writer describes his journey to the quaint little breathtakingly beautiful villages named Langza, Komic and Hikkim in Spiti Valley, the remotest valley in India nearing Tibetan border.

I cannot start talking about Langza, Hikkim or Komic without saying some words about Spiti valley in India. It is a strange place on earth!

You have to see it with your own eyes….nope… you have to experience Spiti valley to understand what I meant.

From the very moment, I entered the Spiti valley region to Kaza and beyond through a beautiful road journey, I was awestruck with the out of the world landscape. Your base will be in Kaza during your visit to Spiti valley in India nearing the Tibet border. From Kaza, you will explore different interesting places as day trips.

Itenary

Morning: Depart from Komic

  • Start Early: Begin your day with a hearty breakfast in Komic.

  • Journey to Langza: Drive approximately 10–11 km to Langza. You have two route options:

    • Via Hikkim: Travel through Hikkim village, which is about 4 km from Komic. This route offers a chance to visit the Hikkim Post Office, known as the highest post office in the world.

    • Alternate Route: Take a different dirt road that loops around Hikkim, providing unique views of the valley. Both routes are approximately the same distance and offer distinct perspectives of the landscape.

🕛 Midday: Explore Langza

  • Arrival in Langza: Reach Langza, situated at an altitude of 4,330 meters. The village is renowned for its rich fossil deposits and breathtaking views of the Chau Chau Kang Nelda peak.

  • Visit the Buddha Statue: Admire the 1,000-year-old Lord Buddha statue located in the meadow, which offers panoramic views of the surrounding mountains.

  • Fossil Exploration: Langza is known as the "Fossil Village" due to its abundance of marine fossils. You can visit the Chaudua Fossil Center to learn more about these ancient relics.

🕒 Afternoon: Cultural Immersion

  • Village Walk: Take a leisurely walk through Langza, interacting with the locals and experiencing the traditional Spitian way of life.

  • Lunch: Enjoy a home-cooked meal at a local homestay, savoring traditional dishes like Chana Madra and Thukpa.

🕓 Evening: Return to Komic or Proceed to Hikkim

  • Option 1 – Return to Komic: After a day of exploration, return to Komic for the night.

  • Option 2 – Proceed to Hikkim: Alternatively, head to Hikkim, which is about 4 km from Langza, to visit the Hikkim Post Office and experience the village's unique charm.
